SEO stands for “search engine optimization”. The point of SEO is to direct consumers to your website organically. Organic search results are favored by both consumers and search engines. How do you determine what is organic in the SEO world? When relevant search results are obtained through content creation and social media, as opposed to paid placement, it is considered organic.

Prior to the Panda update from Google, SEO meant that high traffic came from keyword stuffed content and advertisements. It also was a time when “blackhat” strategies went without punishment, and websites using those tactic often ended up on the first page of search results. Now, in order to rank well, you must use natural and organic methods for boosting your SEO value. The most influential way to increase your company or brand’s SEO value is to produce quality original content. Types of content that work well are:

  1. Product pages: Providing extensive details about products makes it interesting to read.
  2. Blogging: Use topics that are related to your industry. Think outside of the box, get creative. Don’t write about the same topic in different ways.
  3. Articles: Any informative piece written by a third party about your brand should be featured on your website.
  4. Guides: Creating a monthly tutorial or guide for something that would interest your target audience will go a long way in the world of SEO.
  5. Videos: People love videos. Studies have shown that consumers are more likely to watch a video than read an article posting.
  6. Infographic: Charts, pyramids, and diagrams containing a lot of information spread like wildfire across social media channels.
  7. Lists: Include a list pertinent to your business, and make it informative.

Determine Your Goals

What is your objective for SEO as a brand? Do you want to increase sales or your customer base? Whatever it may be, make sure that you are honest in your goal planning. Work closely with your SEO manager to create a timeline that will work, and be aware that this will not happen overnight. SEO is not a sprint, it is a marathon, and if you keep this in mind you will have a successful outcome.

Make Sure Your Voice Is Heard

If you have loads of original content; i.e. news articles written about your company, profiles completed by industry experts, or papers written by associates, make sure that your SEO content manager has all of it. Make sure that your brand’s voice is shining through any content being shared throughout social media. Staying in constant contact with your SEO content manager will ensure that the message you want to send to targeted consumers will be delivered properly. There are many ways to create content that will benefit your brand.

  • Make videos –  If you have a business that creates a product, consider videotaping the development process
  • Do It Yourself – People love DIY guides. If you can share a way for your customers to do something on their own, share it!
  • Customer Feedback – Encourage satisfied customers to write testimonials or reviews.
  • Take A Lot of Pictures– This is very important, especially considering that the average consumer spends little time scanning pages or posts. Captivating pictures grab attention and make it easier for your story to be told. The more pictures that you have, the longer someone will stay on your website.
